Now Closed-Call for Spring 2017 TLC Teaching Scholars (TSs)

The Center for the Advancement of Teaching-Learning Communities (TLC) invites applications from all faculty (non-tenure-track, tenure-track, and tenured, at greater than 50% full-time employment) who teach in undergraduate-serving colleges (CADA, AHS, CBA, COE, ENG, CUPPA, LAS, SPH, and CON) to become Teaching Scholars (TSs) in Spring 2017.
TLC’s vision is to promote and develop the growth of faculty as teachers of UIC’s diverse student body. Inherent in UIC’s culture is faculty commitment to student success. TLC’s mission is to facilitate the development of, and participation in, various learning communities where faculty engage in curricular, instructional, and assessment innovation, including technological advancements, to improve student learning, and especially to facilitate undergraduate student success in the early years.
In the AY 2016-17, 12 TLC Master Teaching Scholars (MTSs), committed to advancing TLC’s mission, support the work of the Center. Information on all MTSs may be found on http://tlc.uic.edu/master-teaching-scholars/. Faculty selected as TSs in Spring 2017 will work with either one of these MTSs or other TLC collaborators from the ACCC-LTS (Learning Technology Solutions, formerly ITL) to strengthen aspects of their teaching practice.
Faculty applying for becoming TSs should select one of three options provided on the application cover sheet. All TSs will be required to attend at least two teaching conversations (informal, hour-long, conversations on issues pertinent to college teaching and its goal of strengthening student learning), and two workshops from the list of TLC’s advancement-of-teaching events that has been announced via a postcard mailed to all faculty in late September 2016 and can also be found on the TLC website and UIC’s Event Calendar. All TSs will also be required to attend (a) the TS Orientation on January 5, 2017 12:30-4:00 pm where all required activities and available supports will be discussed, and (b) the End-of-the-Year Celebration of Learning About Teaching on May 15, 2017 12:30-4:00 pm.
Faculty selected to become TSs in Spring 2017 will be supported with a stipend of $1500. TSs selected for option C will receive an additional $1000 after completion of necessary materials as outlined in the application form.

• A statement (no more than one single-spaced page) explaining your interest in becoming a TS, your trajectory as a teacher and goals related to strengthening your teaching, and your specific focus as part of being a TS in Spring 2017.

Priority will be given to applications received by November 3, 2016.
Results of the review process will be communicated to all applicants by the end of November 2016.
